What sort of books, comics and magazines do you buy for/read to your children? Am particularly interested in the 3-5 age range. TIA

Books- anything which grabs her (mine's 6) attentio at the library, in the kids sectio i hasten to add!

As for magazines- I buy her one every Sunday, when i've finshed my shift at work, it's her "treat" for the week. It's usually CBeebies, unless it's got a noisy toy on the front (this week for example, it's a flute type thing- i don't bloody think so!). She is however a bit (read alot) of a Dr Who geek, so I get that magazine for her occasionally.
Hi, my five year daughter likes pink, sparkly ones - there's a Disney princess one, one called something like Sparkle. She generally makes her final decision based on the plastic tat that comes free with it. (The plastic tat is a big one for the four youngest - the eldest usually asks for the money instead.)
I think my N butto is broken :-(

My 4 year old girl and all of the children in her pre-school class absolute love The Gruffalo, Gruffalo's child and anything else written by Julia Donaldson. Had to buy the books for home as well as she can't get enough!
Young grandson likes Thomas the Tank Engine
I agree, definitely The Gruffalo and Hairy McClarry (sp?) and The Bear Hunt
going back a bit.......ladybird books

Thanks again all! I'm looking at what children think of reading for my dissertation at uni and it's easy to see what's popular in school but that doesn't always match up with home!
my boys are a bit older than that now, but looking back, they liked the Mr men books, a book called Paddiwak and Cosy was a favourite too and generally books with rhymes and pictures - didn't get comics - cheaper to buy a book most of the time. My eldest's particular favourite at that age was a technical book about steam tractors, but I'm guessing that may be a bit of a niche market for the 3-5 year olds!
