Sorry to trouble you, but I wondered if you may be able to help please?
My seven year old nephew has just been admitted to hospital.
He was complaining of ear pain. GP prescribed antibiotics on Wedneday. Thursday he was still in pain, so the GP doubled the dose of abx. Today he was in so much pain, the GP referred him to the hospital.
CT scan done, and it showed a partial blockage of a vein somewhere in his head (parents wording). He was given clot busters and now on a 10/7 warfarin.
In your opinion, could the two be related? Have you come across this before? Sorry for the lack of full medical information, but it is all I have go to on. Dad was obviously too upset to talk.
PMH - prone to ear infections which usually resolve with abx. Nil else of significance.
Many thanks.

Have been thinking about the little man a great deal over Christmas. Glad things are improving. The little fellow deserves a really good Christmas all of his own as soon as he is well enough. Poor little mite!!
As others have said I too have been thinking about your nephew these past few days, and hoping he is ok. Not been able to get online since yesterday morning and first thing I did this afternoon when we got back in was come here!
Thank you for the update. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he enjoys his own special xmas when he gets home :o)
Quite, quite interesting and thank you for the update.
Is there any chance of you getting the complete results of the LP?
Also could you ask exactly which vein was blocked?
Is another scan contemplated?

He will be fine now.

Believe you me Sqad, if I could I would get the results of all his investigations.
The questions you have asked are the exact questions I have been asking all along. The majority of the info I have been getting is from my in laws and they have no grasp of medicine.
I shall wait until things have settled down more, and then try and find out more direct from the parents. Dad is a physio so hopefully he will have a better understanding.
When I know more, I will let you know.
Many thanks again people.

Thanks for your reply.......the big unanswered question is:

"What caused that vein to be thrombosed"

However, he is "out of the woods" .....for the moment.

Some good news! The little man has been released from hospital today!
He still faces a barage of tests, bloods, scans and so on, but at least he is now home. Dx on LMWH and warfarin.
Full discharge summary to follow (hopefully!).
yayyyyyy!
good news indeed

Sqad - a little amount of further information for you.
The clot was in the transverse sigmoid sinus.
He is still struggling with the vision in his left eye. We hope in time when the pressure is reduced on his optic nerve that his vision will improve and not be permanently damaged. His pain is on and off, and he is exhausted (understandably).
I have been unable to obtain the results of the LP.
