Hi all! My sister is overdue with her second baby and has been told she will be induced on Monday if nothing happens before then. She has asked me to stay there to look after her toddler while her and OH are at the hospital and giving birth which I am really happy to do. She has said she would like to stay the night in the hospital after the birth as she made the mistake of leaving really soon the first time. The only thing is that she lives about 100 miles away and as work is really busy at the moment I'm worried about asking for much time off at short notice. (I know this sounds a little selfish). I have booked Monday and Tuesday off but I just wanted to know, if she is induced on Monday how long could it be before baby actually arrives?

I was induced, and it took around 8hrs - but could've been sooner(long story)
as she is overdue and as the hospital have left her til monday i assume they are quite confident all is well and she should go into labour naturally before then. She could always put a teaspoon of cod liver oil in a small glass of fresh orange, which is an old wives method but will work if baby is ready. i it doesn't work it is perfectly harmless, i used it with my last and it didn't work though, he was 4 days late in the end.
It could be hours but it could be days. Depends what method they use.

I was taken in to be induced. They examined me that evening and found I was already dilated so they left me till the morning. Took me down about lunch time and broke my waters. I had my baby 4 hours later.

If she's not dilated they insert something but this can take quite a few attemps.
I was 14 days overdue..
I know a woman who took 5 days between the 1st attempt to induce labour and the baby being born!
They actually administer an injection, and full labour starts within minutes, after that it's down to the baby & the midwife - with some considerable pushing from mum!! lol
My eldest daughter was 10 days overdue with my grandson, had her waters broken, and had 3 lots of gel put up there, and he still had to be delivered by forceps 3 days after her going into hospital.
Looks like you might need to book a few extra days off...
No definitive answer then it seems!

Oh dear. Wouldn't it be lovely if you could just say, 'hey little baby, please show up at 12 noon on Monday'.

Come Monday she will be two weeks overdue and although a while ago they had a tiny concern about the size of baby I think they have decided everything is fine now. I will be telling her to try the Cod liver oil on Friday afternoon!
I was two weeks over due with my first.. got induced on the Monday morning, had an emergency c-section on the Tuesday afternoon.. had to stay in hospital until the Saturday.. not a pleasant experience which is probably why I waited 5 years to have my second child....
I went in at 42 weeks for induction, went in on wednesday morn and gave birth on the saturday morning.
red. so baby just popped out then ?
i think theres not gaurentees when being induced so i would book some more time off just to be sure. They started me on a thursday afternoon and he eventually came on the sunday morning
that one didnt, anna. They couldnt even get labour started lol. Though once it did the labour was only 6 hours.

Second one wasnt induced, labour was recorded as 1hr50mins.
