I was sterilised in 2000. (female) The op is quick and you go home the same day. Felt a bit sore for a few days after, but not too bad. You would probably need a week off work (minimum) but the hospital will sign you off sick when they discharge you.
It really was not that bad - its keyhole surgery now and you are left with a tiny scar.
I had it done 25 years ago. I was in overnight and had 2 days off work. The only problem I remember, was having a terrible bloated feeling in my stomach and a bit of soreness internally as I had been quarterised for a reason I cannot remember. It was a week after my 27th birthday. I have heard since the doctors don't like to do it now until you are over 30. Not sure if that is true.
I hope you weren't quaterised, miss skippy - you'd be in bits.

Keyhole surgery, home same day, back to work after a couple of days. Little bit of bloating and wind, nothing to worry about.
It was 23 years ago, my son is now 25.......I knew I was usless at maths. Also it was keyhole then too as I have 2 very small scars.
I cannot spell either, too much time hopping off school.
