Texting on Motorola V3 Mobile Phone

I have recently changed mobile phone and I'm now using a Motorola V3. I have been getting increasingly frustrated when composing text messages. There I am - keying in a message - which, when it's quite a lengthy one, takes a bit of time - when I hit a wrong button by accident (usually the red 'end call button') and POOF! Message disappears into oblivion! AAGGHH! When I made a mistake on my old phone (a LG) the text I had been composing would automatically save to 'draft messages'. Or it would give you an option when composing another message to return to your previous one. So my question is to other current or previous V3 users - is there a way, apart from obviously NOT making a mistake when texting, of saving what I have composed? Or somehow accessing the text I have previously been composing before I completely mucked up? Thanks in advance.
