For birth marriage and death records there is www.freeBMD.org.uk and also www.ancestry.co.uk

For searching other trees, you can try Ancestry again.

For message boards, try Ancestry or www.rootschat.com

For census records, Ancestry or www.findmypast.com.

Oh, and there is www.familysearch.org for the 1881 census and the IGI (baptisms, marriages and deaths).
