i made a mistake at work this morning, and was told by the boss "my head is up my a55" called me a "d1ckhead" and told me to "p1ss off" would anybody else stand for this treatment?

i know not many other people at this company would stand for it and would say something back, infact i dont think he would talk to anyone else the way he just did me. I am fuming, i feel like walking out, no job is worth being given this kind of treatment or am i just being naieve??

What do you do?

My boss shouts and swears at other people but never at me because I am a girl and office staff. The others are all male tradesmen and it to seems to be the norm between all of them.

I think that is terrible, you shouldnt have to put up with that, its verbal harrassment and you boss could get into trouble for speaking to you like that. You could go to his superiors if you didnt mind the bad feeling it may create.
as a boss i can see both sides of this....

1. he is standing by you but yet make him look a fool and perhaps he has told you many times before but yet you dont listen to him and now he has lost his temper and his trying a different way of making you understand?

2. he is calling you these things because he knows you wont have a go back at him, yet he is pushing the boundries further to get you to respond and start having some respect in yourself. if you have some respect for yourself you will have more respect for your work!

i had the same problem with an old employee of mine, i tried the nice way i tried the hard nose business way and in the end i tried the personal attack way, in the end i had to sack him tho!!!
i would have told him to **** off.
nobody has the right to speak to you like that and i would have to question his managerial capabilitys as this is no way to speak to an employee as potentially you could sue his ass for harrassment.
good luck with the case ;~)
its the world we live in these days
i am quite shocked. what industry do you work in? in the mixed office and warehouse environment i work in, this should be unaccepable. its even in the company handbook that "all employees will be treated with dignity at work, free from harrasment and bullying of any kind." do you have a handbook you can refer to?
and then you could, if you wanted to, follow up with the greivance procedure - whatever that may be where you work. i would imagine you would think it may cause more problems than it would solve, but really the law is stacked in favour of employees rather than employers. and if things get really difficult you have to leave, you could sue them for constructive dismissal.
its answers like this thats p1sses me off!!

an employer is good enough to give you a job and you go into it and waste time ,effort and money with your stupid f*ck ups and when said employer starts holding a firm hand over you because not only are you putting your livelyhood in jeopardy but also your bosses and colleagues you start shouting the roof down for compansation!!

no wonder we are all employing polish people!!!!
ruge? Are you my nan?! ;o)
hey rugely, not all employers are whiter than white you know. you dont even know what mistake salisbury made. maybe it was a training issue and thats why he made a mistake. pull your freaking head in (or off) ;o)
mandimoo.................its not salisburys i was getting at!!;)

yeh i agree ruge (not that im jumping on the bandwagon or owt)
but you dont know the circumstances i run a large construction site and constantly have to deal with non performers so to speak the truth of the matter is 9 times out of 10 there is always a reason people dont reach thier full potential wether its down to lazyness or otherwise but shouting and bauling at someone will never be the solution, as i regularly experiance.
not only throught the courts but people tend to walk away with a sore nose or eye etc. hehe
an amicable solution is the only way to rectify any type so situation
now will someone go over to business and finance to answer my q on credit card fraud ;~)
sorry salisbury
fms..... i have a few blokes who i employ and i agree that a rollocking is not always the way, i am a very easy going bloke that has high values in the workplace and teach ALL my staff to give to our customers what we would expect ourselves.

there has been ocasions where i have been unable to get around people with flattery or ego boosting methods and i have had to give them a rollocking, most of the times it works as my lads know i have a long fuse!!

years ago i had a large transport company and 3 companies went bankrupt on me, after a meeting with my accountants they advised me to pull the plug and get rid of all my staff!!

by the time i got back to my office with the bad news i had got all of them jobs with other firms doing the same thing......one of the lads REFUSED this new job and took me to court for UNFAIR dismissal!!! the B4STARD!!!!
tis hard ruge unfortunately we now live in the wonder of this claim culture and unfortunately theres sweet fa we can do about certain individals if thats the way they wish to go all you can do is give then the least amount of ammo so they have no grounds if it goes that far.

salisbury you have evry right to be annoyed that he treated you that way.
hey ruge, i already thinks you were having a dig at me, but dont wanna make enemies, so s'cool, every1 entitled to their opinion xxx
Salisbury, ignore rugleyboy - he is a dinosaur, an employer from the past when the guys in charge could treat the employees exactly as they liked, and get away with it. No employer can treat you like that these days. Take mandimoo's advice - put in a complaint - let it be known that you are not prepared to be humiliated and demeaned like that, even if you did make a mistake. Everyone, no matter how lowly their job, is entitled to dignity and respect. If you get any cr@p because of your complaint, put in another one - if they sack you because of it, go to a tribunal. Employers like the one you have need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the twenty first century, and forced to treat their employees with respect.
Go for it! Stand up for your right to dignity.
Best of luck.
It's unnacceptable. You should go to your Personnel Manager if you have one and make an official complaint. Otherwise, see his boss. Oblviously, you have to judge what the repercussions might be.
