looking at going to my school reunion, it struck me how many people still live in our home town (portsmouth)
just wondered if they are the lucky ones for staying, or if i'm the lucky one for getting away?

me
I still live where I was born.
Not me
Born in London lived there until 16, moved to Bedfordshire, then Hertfordshire, then Norfolk. So no. I certainly have no regrets now about getting out of London and living in the sticks.
I would have liked to have grown up in Mytholmroyd where I was born, but I grew up in Ormskirk from the age of 4 and so my schools were there and that i would never change as I have life long friends through it. I haven't lived in Ormskirk however since 1977, my kids roots are in this village and I envy them that they have such stability because of that.
No, not since '79.
I do, and I wish I didn't.

Stockton is a ghost town and the High Street (Once famed for being the widest in Europe) is awash with pound shops and charity shops. The biggest names left are Debenhams, Iceland and M & S. We don't know what is happening with our HMV...

I'd rather be in Yeovil, nearer to my Sister.
how do you define a home town?
Born and bred in London and still live in south east London and work centrally... However I have also lived in Guildford, Luton, Twickenham and Godalming for other periods in my life.

I would like to live by the sea in the future.
Actually Fluffy, I don't consider anywhere as my home town. Even now at 65 I would move elsewhere if I fancied it. I could make anywhere into my home. My relatives are all far flung now, as are a lot of my friends.
Oooh China, I lived in Twickenham actually (well Whitton) for the first year of my life and spent many happy times there until my grandparents retired from their greencrocery!!
I don't and wouldn't be happy going back there- when I do I find it cloying and tragic. I'm happy anywhere in the world once I take a shine to a place and it's people.
I lived in Strawberry hill for a bit and then opposite twickenham green above a chinese :c)
and I have relatives in Guildford and used to work in Luton, so perhaps our paths have crossed. Exept I am twice your age, so perhaps not!!!!!
Judge, I used to go shopping in Stockton as a teenager as there was a really good market on Saturdays. Haven't been back for 30 years and so I've heard it has changed.
No, to the question. I even left the country.
I think I might be a bit like Nox. I don't particularly get attached to anywhere or worry about leaving friends and relations. Always was willing to try new places, but I do love north Norfolk and doubt I will leave now.
I might have seen you in the pub! :c)

I lived near the university and then near the hospital in guildford.
im with you lofty, i don;t consider where i live to be my home town and i think,(counting on fingers) there were 8 or 9 moves when i was a kid
Me. I live in the same village! Have had a secondary address in London, useful because of work, but never abandoned the village and always regarded it as home.

But going home, or not leaving, may not be perfect. My ex is Welsh, and the Welsh have a tradition of always going back to Wales. At a London Welsh dinner, a worthy matron assumed she would be returning and got the reply "Why the hell do you think I left ?!" lol

I actually lived in Wimbledon China from 1 until 15. I was born in Merton. Lived with my grandmother until I was 1 because my mum was very ill and in and out of hospital.
