hello all,

I have a 5month old son. He developed a cold approx. 1 month ago - runny nose and cough. The cold largely seems to have cleared but he still sounds quite chesty/rattly on occasion. We saw the GP last week and they said he probably has a virus similar to bronchiolitis but that he is big enough to cope with it and it will clear itself up. I'm just concerned that it does seem to have lasted for a long time now and I wondered whether it could be something else - such as asthma or allergies - that would need addressing. My boy already had bronchiolitis when he was 1month old that needed hospital admission and this developed into pneumonia. We also have two dogs - they are never in close contact with my son but obv. share the same house. Could this be the cause?
thanks for any opinions/advice

if he is wheezing and sounding chesty then i would return to the GP and discuss this with them.
If your baby is feeding well and gaining weight, then the wheezy chest should not be a problem.

Yes, he could be allergic to dog hair, but before coming to any such conclusion, I would monitor the situation for the next couple of weeks.
i agree with red on this issue.
there is absolutely no question here...........go back to the gp and explain your concerns pronto!
