Anyone had low Iron levels after birth?

My blood pressure drop to 50, but this has now returned to normal range but my iron level is still 9.1 even with taking iron tablets and eating loads of iron rich food like red meat etc and certain veg.

How long does it take to get your iron levels back to normal as i get very tired esp with a newborn plus looking after my older child and also trying to breastfeed as much as i can. Should you breastfeed if your iron count is low?

A consultation with your GP is advisable.
Iron level...?

Do you mean haemoglobin level?

You BP 50? you mean diastolic (lower figure)

Haemoglobin 9.1 is not the end of the world, but is a bit on the low side.

The breast fed baby will not suffer and neither will you.

Go back to the GP and have another blood test.

i have appts with both the hospital and doctors but they wont do anything for a month until i have competed the first lot of tablets.
That seems reasonable to me.

just wondering how long it will take as i hate taking tablets and want to get back to normal.
I'm afraid that you will have to be patient and await the results of your next blood test.
I'm sorry I can't be more positive, but it took months to get my iron levels back to 'normal' after my 1st - I was on tablets for 6 months+

I think that drinking orange juice can help with iron absorbtion, but could be wrong?

Congrats on the new baby, hope you're feeling better soon!

k8bailey - Thanks for info, i am hoping that it wont be the case for me, but at least i know that it could be 6 months or so. Gives me something to work towards.

Thanks for the comments.
My daughter took Floradix----the one with iron in it----- following the births of her babies and found it very beneficial! Good luck with it all!
