Does anyone else out there have this?  I was diagnosed nearly four years ago after having problems since I was about 14.  When I was 18 I was told the problems (3 weeks on, 1 week off) were because my cycle needed to settle down!

What are you doing to control/help it?

What medical help have you been given?

Thanks

I have this, I was told by GP that normal treatment for this would be to put on the Pill, as I don't want this and due to family medical history can't take the Pill anyway, GP was at a loss as to what to do so referred me to a 'Specialist' at local hospital. Each appointment I see someone new and have to go over all the details each time, other than recommending I lose weight they were of very little help. I did research on Web and found that a drug used for treating diabetes has been found to help, so I pressed for this and eventually was given it on a very low dosage. I have found that it hasn't helped at all, I think the dosage is too low to be of any use and have another appointment later this month. They did say at the last appointment, if I had no lost a significant amount of weight then they would take me off this drug. As I haven't, they probably will.

Weight is one of the problems I have, people dont understand how hard it is to lose weight thanks to PCO!

I have managed to lose nearly 2 stone in a year but then again, starting a new and wonderful relationship, changing jobs and moving house in that year probably helped!

One of the treatments I have, which helps me regulate my periods is Duphaston, otherwise known as Dydrogesterone.

Do you have problems with irregular periods?  A lot of sites say they become non-existent, mine went the other way where it was either three weeks on, one week off (especially before I was diagnosed) and when I recently stopped taking Duphaston it became every other week.

My bloke is very understanding but sometimes, as do I, gets frustrated with it all.

The Pill has helped with reducing the heaviness and pain I used to get and has gone some way to balancing out my hormones - dont think I am as moody and grumpy!

firstly well done on losing 2 stone - as you say people don't understand how difficult it is and the more overweight you are the worse the symptoms get - if I could lose 2 stone, it would be a start, but I just cannot seem to shift any at the moment . For the past 2 weeks I have been doing the Special K (bowl for brekkie another for lunch) and have tried to get more exercise by walking when possible, but when I get on the scales on Monday I know I won't have lost any weight although I do feel less bloated. My periods were irregular before going on the drug, one month I would have one the next month I wouldn't, so that has been helped, although if they take me off it, then I suppose it will be back to square 1 again
I was diagnosed at 18 after suffering really bad depression for 2 years.  I put on loads of weight and my periods stopped completely for well over a year.  I saw a specialist about every three months (luckily always the same one), he gave me the pill also and this helped.  I'm now 23, I have lost all the weight (me a size 12!!) have regular periods and i'm very happy.  I still see the doc occasionally (he gives me these great pills which stop me being scary hairy) and now I only really worry about my fertility.  I hope you can both get over PCOS, it is an uphill struggle but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and got no help whatsoever. Any knowledge I got was from the internet or library. As I was already on the pill this wasn't an option for me. I don't suffer from weight problems or excess hair which can be a problem. I did however suffer from problems conceiving. I was prescribed a drug called Clomid which (if it works 50/50 chance) makes you ovulate. I did conceive on the second time of using it but suffered a miscarriage. To cut a long story short I never used it again but conceived naturally about a year later and now have a beautiful 3 year old son.

Hiya! I satreted gaining a LOT of weight when I was about 11.  When I was 18 I was told I had PCOS and since then, I'm 21 now, I've only managed to lose 3 stone.  I was on dianette to regulate periods but stopped after 2 yrs and now take Metformin (when I remember! lol) to control my blood sugar level.  I'm not really bothered about the fact I'm a big girl, what worried me is the chances I may not be able to have children.  I worry a lot about this but I've decided that no matter what I will be a Mum, naturally, adopting or fostering, I just have a lot of love to give!  My advice is to try and find the positive in everything, for example I'm not 'skinny' but I'm slowly learning to like my curves. Also if you are not satistified with your treatment, I would definately go and see your doctor.  Good Luck!
Wow and I just want to say a HUGE Well Done to all the girls who have lost so much weight!  I bet you look fantastic and it makes everything worthwhile!  Well Done! :o)

I have just been diagnosed with this problem and I found this site after a little researching. I wasn't really told much about the problem as the doctor found it on a routine 'scan' I was having.

Thank you for enlightening me a little more
