Why is it called a Family Planning Clinic? You're certainly not planning a family when you attend one of these, you're avoiding one lol. Where did the name come from???

My sister-in-law's a doctor, and head of a family planning clinic. These places aren't just about PREVENTING pregnancy, but for couples to go and chat about the most suitable contraception for them, and to ask any questions in relation to when to stop it if they wish to start a family. They also provide all sorts of information, so I guess the name could sound a bit misleading, but covers many aspects of planning and prevention.
Look up Marie Stopes on Google, will answer your question a lot better than I can.
Once upon a time there was no contrception, your family wasn't planned, you got married and immediately turned out babies until you couldn't any more. The name Family Planning came after the introduction of contreception enabling women to 'plan' when they had their children and how many they had.
