Is it generally safe to fly whilst pregnant? I read that it's ok to fly up until 36 weeks...? That about right?

Are their any major risks?

and on another note - where is really hot mid-May? Need some destination ideas!!

Thank u! xxx

yer coz past 36 weeks you'll never flap your arms hard enough to get off the ground :-)
Hi Nat. It is considered safe up until late pregnancy provided you have not had any complications during pregnancy or high blood pressure , although many airlines will not accept pregnant passengers from 32 weeks onwards so it would be advisable to check with your GP and the airline you intend to travel with before booking any tickets. You have to watch for blood clots and thrombosis , not to mention going into labour. Personally - and this is just me - but I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere too hot during late pregnancy as I was so exhausted but if you are fit and well , why not.

lol 4get - u looooooon!!!

thanks enigma - i'll definetely check with my MW and the travel agency. I haven't had any complications yet (except she's a bit smaller than the average baby at this stage) but i fell fit and well (not sure how long that'll last!).

I'll be 31 weeks pregnant when i hope to travel.... just think a holiday will do me good before all the giving birth panic attacks!
Take your holiday and have a great time , you deserve it and let's face it , it may well be your last bit of freedom for a looooooooooong time. Take it from someone who knows lol. I take it this is your first baby ? Congrats. Oh and I wouldn't worry too much about the weight of your little girl until she's here. Just keep eating well and avoiding the usual things you can't eat and that's all you can do. What will be will be.

When I was pregnant with my eldest daughter , my midwife and doctor kept telling me at appointments that I was going to have a very low birth weight baby and that I was measuring two weeks behind the normal size. I was devastated and blamed myself because although I ate really healthily , I had terrible morning sickness right through my pregnancy and blamed myself. Then at one appointment , a different midwife told me that they were talking rubbish and that she was lying low in the pelvic area and I probably wasn't carrying a lot of fluid - hence my petite bump. She was 7 lb 14 oz when she was born which is heavier than the average birth weight (although light compared to my other two who were well over nine pounds ) and at nine years old , she is very tall , wearing clothes for aged twelves and is very fit , so don't worry too much , they don't always get it right and even low birth weight babies can shoot up in height over the years. All the best and remember and come back and tell us what name you pick and what weight she is etc x
Nat,
dont got for anywhere too hot, the last few weeks of pregnancy can be uncomfortable if its too hot.

Check with your midwife and the appropriate airline for ideas on safe flying times.

Also check that health insurance would cover you.
Hi nat, I agree with redcrx.

You have your own little central heating system going on there, and you will find it much hotter than anyone else..find somewhere that isn't mega hot weather!
Forgot to say..my son was born in December, and throughout October, November & December I was wearing shorts & t shirt I was THAT hot..*phew*.
Question Author
Yes, enigma - this is my first! We're both very excited!!! My last holiday for a long time and this will probably be my last holiday with my mum :o(

Fellow ABers convinced me that her current size is nothing to worry about and i have a growth scan on 2 April so i'm just seeing it as another opportunity to see her on screen!!

Wherever i do go, i wont want a flight longer than 4 hours although i do want somewhere hot....! Though not humid, sticky and over hot :o)

Bloody hell Pippa!!! What am i gonna be like throughout July!!??
LOL!

My other babies were born in April, June & July. The December baby was better as it was cooler outside. The April one was during the hottest spring ever (1990) and it was unbearable. With the two summer babies I had fans all over the house and carried portable ones with me outside.

I must have drank gallons of water too!
Question Author
ok...water and fans!! Another two items on my MUST have list!
Nat, mine was due 15th June. by 2nd July i was so hot and fed up.

I couldnt keep cool, had water in spray bottles, windows opne, and magicool cans everywhere. I just couldnt stay cool.

I think that's where those big floaty maternity dresses come in handy, eh redcrx?

I certainly couldn't have worn anything tight around my sweaty belly...lol
Question Author
lol ewww.."sweaty belly".

I have a strong feeling she's going to pop out post 14th July!!

I might have to just live in a cold shower for the month...:o(
god I remember my legs felt so itchy and burning that i had to sit when cold shower running over my legs.

Nat, make sure its somewhere not humid and that you can sit in a cool breeze and shade, dont sit in direct sun all the time and drink lots of bottled water

Gosh - the realism of giving birth and being heavily pregnant is slowly kicking in!

We're currently looking for a flat and i said i'll move anywhere in London (within reason) aslong as i have a garden!!

I'll need it during summer and basically during maternity leave as a really dont like the idea of being stuck indoors all day.
Nat I'd agree with everyone else don't go anywhere hot, in late pregancy you seem to run at a different temeperature to everyone else. Given the choice I'd choose a hotel with a spa somewhere not to far like Jersey or Gurensey and then I'd let them pamper me to death cos once that little one arrives you never seem to get time to be pampered again and when you do you feel guilty lol!!!!
best phone your sirline you will travel with, most wont accept you after 27 weeks and you will definitely need a doctors note, if you wish to fly sometimes as early as 24 weeks.
oh and my babies were born in July and August, II loved being pregnant in the summer, lying in the garde3n all day, then the pool in the hot hours, couldnt be a nicer time to be pregnant.
Question Author
I was considering going to a spa for a couple of days.... i'll defintely look into it. Mum could drive us too!

Thanks Goodsoulette - i was thinking along the same lines as pool and garden and i'm really looking forward to it!!
