sorry i no this isnt a question but what a shame that its getting to the stage where were having to offer girls money to to do whats best for their unborn child, like they r in scotland.

it sickens me that women and girls do this, my partner gave up as soon as we found out we were expecting, but i actually no someone who did just this?!

last year i was pregnant at the same time as an ex friend of mine, (i no longer consider her a friend cos of her compulsive lying) and she had the nerve to say that at least her smoking would be less work for her fanny! sorry to be crude but its what she said!

this is a 23 year old woman with a 5 yr old son (who has been passive smoking since his conception!), shes a v intelligent woman, shes not from a bad home in fact her parents and brother r all normal lovely people and yet she could talk about her baby like that! mind u shes one of these mothers that also feed her son complete junk and then wonders y he has severe mood swings!

she has the nerve to say im too prissy cos i feed my son healthy home cooked meals and wont allow anyone who has been smoking near him for an hour after! thats just common sense though surley? i want to protect him and give him the best start in life that i can, she just wants a bigger council flat!
grrr sorry for ranting!

Well in an ideal world, everyone would be eating whole food, not smoking, drinking or doing drugs, there would be no wife beating, violent crime and we'd all live happily ever after.however this is not an ideal world, and people feel motivated to do things for a variety of social reasons. Whilst I'll admit that it's not ideal, and my own wife looks after herself very well whilst pregnant and doesn't smoke when she's not either, I'm not about to decry women and girls whose educational staus I do not know, whose stress levels I can only guess at and who are living eprhaps with difficulties that I am unaware of.
You are of course welcome to bring up your own child as you see fit ( we don't smoke ourselves) but you are coming off as very judgmental and not terribly understanding of what might motivate these women you are discussing.
I'm sure you do a great job as a mother, but there are thousands of excellent mothers who smoke as well, and it's worth remembereing that parenting is more than food or lifestyle, it's also about understanding and unconditional love. Just because someone smokes does not make them a bad parent, just because someone doesn't, it does not make them a good one.
I smoke & have done so for years. I smoked throught both pregnancies(over 30 years ago) My 1st child weighed 8lb 6 & I had twins who weighed 5lb 8 & 5 lb 12. None have ever been ill apart from colds & measles. Not one of them have EVER had any chest problems & neither have I & I always cooked fresh foods for them.

i dont mean to come across as judgmental, i think im just biased because of this particular woman i know. i dont have a problem with smokers, i used to smoke, my partner has taken up the habit again since my son was born, he just doesnt cuddle him or anything until an hour later, my sister in law went from 30 a day to one throughout her pregnancy and now she has her daughter shes smoking again, just not as many! i have many friends who were not able to give up completly during pregnancy but they made such a huge effort to cut down and that alone showed that they recognised the possible consequences!
and i certainly dont want to sound all holier than thou just because i dont smoke or giv my son junk, i do everything i can for him, like u say nox unconditional love, hes absolutley my world but at the same time im not going to pretend not to notice when i see someone intentionally harming their child despite knowing all the dangers, its nothing to be proud of as far as im concerned no matter what ur background. its a lottery, whether u smoke or not ur child can have health problems but is it worth risking it?

Well wasn't this asa result of a government warning saying that if you smoke during pregnancy you will have a smaller baby?

I imagine with that news they started smoking more so that they could have a small baby with little interruption to there clubbing sesions.
