Our girl is turning 8 soon and I have no idea what to do for her birthday we have had some excellent parties in the past e.g. funky but punky theme (6) and we had a prince and princesses ball (5) and we did bowling last year which was hectic. a lot of the girls in her class have had make over parties but we wanted something different plus money is tighter than the last years so i would be very happy for any suggestions?

i once had a swimming party when i was younger - wasnt that expensive to hire out te pool for an hour or so and then has party upstairs after. although alot of supervision is needed...

and i had a party where we all dressed in pjs which was kinda fun...

and a fancy dress with prize for best costume...

think the best one was the 'Under the Sea' party, decorated pary place with lots of blue and all dressed as fish, crabs, mermaids etc. The Little Mermaid had not long been relaeased.we had normal food but little signs saying what they were with ses theme...We did the same for friend of mine with the Jungle book too!!!

I love parties!

There are so many different parties that you could have for an 8 year old! Here are some of my ideas:

How about a big slumber party (sleepover), you could rent out some newish films and get them popcorn and sweets to munch on! Also, they could play some games and enjoy themselves!

You could do a jewellery making party - collect some beads and things from a local craft shop and they can make a selection of jewellery (such as necklaces and bracelets)!

You could think about hiring a magician? I had that when I was younger and really enjoyed it!

Another idea would be to have a fancy dress party?

Or what about a pop idol party? The kids come dressed as a favourite pop star and have to perform a dance/song?! That could be fun and great to look back on in years to come!

Other more common ideas (though usually better with less children): swimming, visit to a zoo/theme park, cinema, soft play centre...

Anyway, let us now what you choose to do! Enjoy yourselves!

We had a skating party for our daughters 8th party last year,it was 4 per child including a meal, this year she wants a sleepover or disco.
I once did a Treasure Hunt as part of my child's birthday, you have to hide clues all over the place and you give them the first clue and then the rest are hidden all over the place, each one leading to the next you know the sort of thing ... and at the end is a big Treasure Chest with prizes and sweets .. you could do the whole thing as a pirate theme with a treasure island map etc. etc.

Have you asked her what she'd like?
At 8 she should have at least some of her own ideas...
