When I was about 5 I had a time of great anxiety due to the death of a family member. The stress showed itself in abdominal migraines. Although I had 'regular' migraines I also had terrible abdominal pains. I grew out of it but the my doctor told me it is quite common for stress to show itself in the stomach.

Has your child had any stress? This may be a contributing factor.

yes shes just found out her grandma has cancer and the family dog has just been put to sleep so shes very upset at the mo, do you remember how your stress was dealt with? and thanx for reply
apparently abdominal migrane can be hereditary and most people grow out of them by adolescence. Spooky your question should appear today, I found out about them on Monday!

Has your daughter been diagnosed by her GP or at a hospital because according to one of our doctors they are only suspected abdo migrane until confirmed by a specialist. If she hasn't been referred insist on it as the consultant will be in a much better position to offer advice and possible treatments.
I had them at Uni aged about 19/20. Have never had them for the last 30 odd years.
I don't know if this has anything to do with your daughter's condition but I had a friend when I was in my twenties who had "stomach migraines". She'd had them all her life, and it would happen about once a fortnight. After travelling in Asia where she'd not had any, and they started again as soon as she got back, she found it was potatoes that caused the problem.

thank you i will try eliminating potatoes for a while.

Hi loopyc. It sounds very similar then to my own experience. For me it was simply a matter of time as i managed to understand the death - very difficult when you're little. My mum was excellent and they started to go with time as life moved along.

I don't think there is a magic answer but all I can say is they went with time and I'm sure your child's will. Stress is very difficult for children and as I learned to have a damn good cry instead of bottling things up, the release helped to free the anxiety knotted up inside.

Good luck and my best wishes
