was it an earthworm or some kind of maggot?

Earth worm. One u see outside. It was redish and wiggling so fast
Yes, as Tilly indicates, a description might help.

I've occasionally found a tiny worm or two wriggling around on my desk. When that happens I know that it's definitely time for me to visit the vet's surgery, to get some worming tablets for my cats! If it was a tiny worm. perhaps you've got a similar problem?
There's nothing wrong with earthworms, they're not dirty and must have got in by accident. Just gently put it outside.
Oops! Sorry! Crossed posts!

However feline assistance might still explain how an earth worm got from outside to your worktop!

Alternatively, if you catch one of your kids going around with a big grin on their face, perhaps he or she knows rather more than they're telling?
;-)
Don't fret, Phleb. Just put it in the garden.
Poor worm - just pick it up and put it outside on the lawn, it won't hurt you so don't kill it.

I don't have pets. Wheres it come from? It was 2 inch long red and pretty fast. Definately an earth worm
Question Author
I put it on grass. Kids promise they dont know where it came from. I feel ill now just seeing it.
From a pot plant maybe
Maybe you or one of children had it on shoe from outside?
It might have climbed in up the kitchen sink plug hole. Put the stopper in the plug hole. It's was only a little worm. It would not have not harmed you.

I don't have plants. Not lucky enough to get flowers. Just own goldfish and children. All of which have said urghhh to the worm. I have cork worktops, some of which has sank down and is damp, could it have grown in there?
-- answer removed --
No, Phleb.
I agree with Prudie ... just give it some milk and a biscuit then put it back in the garden.
>>> All of which have said urghhh to the worm

What's up with kids today? When I was a lad we used to eat them live!
;-)
Phleb they are not disease carriers so not dirty - only maybe a bit of soil around them. Flies landing on worktops are far more unhealthy.
I doubt it came up through the plughole Tilly. The waste trap deters most things if nothing else.
I could have come from a vegetable, a pot plant, a clump of mud, or just got in through an open window. It's not dirty, insects exist all over the place.
It was there and now it's not. Unless more appear I'd just forget about it.
Don't worry about it, phleb. It's only an earthworm and it's most probably a one off that won't happen again.
