I have posted on here before about how there have been problems with our neighbours over parking. Recently I noticed that Mr neighbour had his leg in plaster and mentioned to his wife that I would give them my phone number (in case he needed assistance when she was at work, etc) and told them to let me know if there was anything I could do to help.

Since then she has been round to thank me and I thought no more of it. This morning (about six weeks after may offer of help) Mrs neighbour came round with a big box of chocolates to thank my for my kindness - even though I haven't done anything to help them.

Just find it kind of sad that they seem to have isolated themselves from their other neighbours (think they have lived here some time) and that they can be so touched my someone just offering to a do a bit of shopping, etc.

That's a nice story, sherrard - just shows how sometimes a friendly gesture can make the world of difference.
You should read the Aesop Fable "The Lion and the Mouse" which shows how kindness always comes back to you.

No act of kindness how ever small is ever wasted is the moral of this tale.
Good for you, I am glad they appreciated your offer.
theres nowt as funny as folk....
sounds as though they've never had friendly neighbours before, good that they appreciated your offer, maybe they'll open up a little now............

I can see why the other neighbours don't want anything to do with them - he is a bit strange and a bit (lot) awkward. I think he has fallen out with all of them at some stage. Mrs neighbour was almost in tears (she said that no one had offered to help them apart from family). Just found it sad that they are so unused to people being nice to them that they have over-reacted (she also brought us a carved pumpkin that she had done with her grandson yesterday).
That's nice to know there are people who appreciate offers of help sherrard, and there are not many who would offer in the first place. Good on you
What a nice story sherr.
sounds like hes victor meldrew...and his mrs is trying to win the neighbours round to me..as soon as his leg is out of plaster my guess is that you wont be seeing much of mrs meldrew sherrard...
