Hi, I am female and my much loved brother is getting married this year to a lovely girl. Our mum died nearly 3 years ago and as head of the family (dad not around), I want to do something special for them. They have been dating for 10 years. I would love to do a speech for them at their wedding in August but not sure if it is appropriate. Has anyone else been in this situation or got any other similar ideas I could do for them. Thanks x

Try googling wedding speeches for females, it's worth a try.
Your brother is a lucky lad to have such a caring sister. Good luck.

Thanks for your comments - got some brill ideas now! Just need to find my Mr Right now!
Think it is getting more common for some other than the parents to make speeches. I went to 2 weddings last year where the brides sister made a speech instead of her father and another where the brides mother made one

As Waterboatman said your brother is a lucky guy having such a lovely sister
What a lovely idea!

I think the normal formal roles at weddings are beng relaxed more and more, especially as some coupled have one or both parents missing for various reasons.

You could say something about being the one best placed to say how wonderful your brother is - everyone will understand the unspoken message.

The great thing is, your speech needs to be heartfelt and short, in that order - it's for the best man to be the comedian on the day.

Your brother is a lucky man - enjoy your day.
