au pair advice

I am thinking about the possibility of returning to work (I work as a teacher) as my children have now gone back to school after several years of homeducating.

However, when I was working before, using a child minder was extortionately expensive and not that convenient for me. It was actually quite stressful. So, if I were to do it, I was thinking of an aupair. I have separate accomodation for an au pair.

So, i was wondering if any of you have any experience with an au pair, any horrible nightmares, pleasant experiences etc, the whole kit and kaboodle. Any good agencies out there, what about the tax thing? any pit falls to watch for?

any help greatly appreciated.

A lot of schools now have before and after school clubs which might be another possibility if your work is not too far away.
Though they don't help with the housework!
