I am trying to transfer money between two online bank accounts which are with different banks and both accounts are in my name. I am being asked for a customer reference. Can anyone explain what is meant by this?

TIA

If it's not the account number itself, just put your name or 'self'
It's for a message to the recipient.

If you are transferring to some Building Society accounts, where the sort code/account number are for the BS itself, then it's the BS account number.
for example, i have an account for my flyball club and a current account. if i am transferring money from the flyball account to my current account i use the reference "flyball" this is so when the money appears in my other account i remember where it came from
