Now that people are withdrawing from the share market in droves and the banks refusing to lend to business as well as themselves will we see a collapse in jobs, firms going to the wall, loss of taxation receipts and eventually leading to a bankrupt government?

a gloomy thought, but a real one.......I fear...
It's not necessarily the case that people are selling shares in droves. It's more case that no-one is buying so traders reduce share prices hoping to generate activity. Eventually shares reach a price where they become attactive to buyers. Still, it is worrying though- all our pension funds are affected, for example.
