I am setting up a website for a bit of fun with some friends from work, that may earn us some money. I am ready to launch but am worried that I need to form a limited company. Is this the case?

You don't need to set up a company, although, under certain circumstances, it can be advantageous to be a Director. With a Limited Company you will also incur other costs (e.g. for filing reports and accounts plus, probably, accountant's costs).
You don`t say what sort of site you are devleoping.I`m working with a group of guys in the UK and we`re putting together an online gaming site. Whilst the games are not live yet we are looking for ambitious people to join our team and help build business in the area. If you would like to hear more about it you are welcome to get in touch.
Cheers
