my bank has agreed to refund my charges but only into my account with them, however I have been in touch with a debt management group, who have been in touch with my bank to repay my overdraft. I f the refund was to be paid into my account I would not receive any of it. I wish for the refund to be sent to me by cheque, the bank say that they can only send a cheque if my bank account is closed. My account is open but I cannot use it because it is being dealt with by the debt management people. Do I have any rights to ask the bank to send the money in cheque form staright to my address even though the account is still open??

The charges were taken out of your account and they are going to be refunded to your account.

It is normal to refund in the same way as it was paid out.

You will get the money - it will reduce your debt.

If the bank know you are getting x amount (from them) and not reducing your debt they could close your account - which they can do at any time - and take further steps to recover their money.

Do you have any other debt? If carlyb is entering into a debt management arrangement doesn't the refund become part of her general assets, and not only to repay her overdraft?
