A friend has paid a 500 deposit on a country hall for her wedding in August 2008, she has now decided to have a much smaller wedding.
As this is over a year away, should she be able to get her deposit back? On her contract with them it only mentions if you cancel 6 months before and then in gradients up to the day.

Well did it say anything about it being non-refundable? Legally speaking I would say that she is not entitled to it back, but if she asks them if it is possible they might give it, or they might say that if that date is booked by someone else then they will return it out of goodwill. Aint no harm in asking. My friend did the same thing actually and lost her deposit ..
