I was under the impression that you can only claim family tax credit if your combined salary was under 34,000 but to my suprise i found out today that the figure is about 58,000. I rang up for a claim form and was informed I have missed out on roughly 4 years of credit and I can only claim for 3 months backdated credit, has anyone claimed any backdated credit? Thanks in advance.

Unforutately you can only claim back 3 months..They should have told you but they never admit any liability..they say the onus is up to you to notify of any changes..bloody hopeless!
deeboy it seems it is not the fact that swindontony wasn't telt about the limit, it's that he didn't ask sooner. Don't blame HMRC on this one. swindontony was "under the impression" the limit was 34,000 but a check on the internet would have given the correct amount and he should consider himsel fortunate to get three months' backdating....
