sorry
not enough
In 2006-2007, the full basic State Pension is 84.25 per week, but your individual circumstances may affect the amount you get.

You can apply for a Pension Forecast on line if you wish http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/atoz/atozdetailed/rpforecast.asp

Thanks,lopper. You're right, it's not enough.

Thanks to you, too, sir.prize. 84.24 will just pay the rent and poll tax.

Yorkie Lass - I tried the Pension Forecast but they don't actually tell you how much you get - just that you're eligible for a pension. Thanks anyway. I'll see if I have a spare day soon and phone them.

You can print off the form BR19 and send it to the Pension Forecast section. I've not had a good look at the site but we used to tell folk they'd get a reply within about three weeks (I used to work on the Pension Section at the Benefits Agency.) The reply tells you what you've qualified for to date, what the maximum will be and any previous years for which you can pay NI Contributions.

Thanks, THECORBYLOON. I'll give it a try.

You should be able to receive a forecast not just a verification that you are eligible. If you can't do it online print a BR19 off as THECORBYLOON suggested.
