The new company will transfer it automatically but not close your old account.

You can do that either by writing to them or simply not using them any more.

Barclays will transfer from your old card BUT there may be a charge, usually 2 to 3 % of the balance. There will be a form for you to give the details of your existing credit card account or you should be able to do it over the phone.

It really is very straightforward.

thanks ethel, So I dont worry until the new card comes then fill in the part about balance transfers on the form is that right?

this is the link for the new card I applied for

http://www.0for10.co.uk/barclays_landing/platinum.html

If you follow this link to Barclaycard's website, you will find that there is a 2.5% fee for balance transfers. The link you showed is a bit of a naughty ad as it doesn't show this.

I believe that the best deal around at he moment is Post Office who only offer 6 months interest free, but looks like (from their advertising) that they have no transfer fee. I have just applied for one, so when it comes through will let you know!

Hi.

Yesterday I transferred a balance from one bank to Barclays. I can confirm the following details:

There is NO fee for transfer. There is NO interest for 10 months on the balance transfer. There is NO interest on purchases for 3 months. But there IS interest on cash withdrawals.

To add to my posting

Ask for the Premiership Barclaycard.

The offer ends on 26 April, 2006.

Also ask for leaflet 9904622 BCD28032LFTB5 01/06

Also the Premiership Barclaycard has a Free Draw giving away Premiership Tickets every month

thanks everyone,

is the part correct, when/if the new card and forms arrive i then fill in the part stating that i want to do a balance transfer, and that i want the premership barclaycard. I wont be using the card just trying to get the amount owed down a bit all comments appreciated

P.s just noticed on the site that as long as i transfer before so many days...and it says as long as the transfer isnt over your credit limit, so for example i owe approx 1,600 on my exsiting card if they only give me say 250 credit does that mean i can only transfer 250 of the 1,600?

*confused*

Hello again.
Let me explain how I understand it.
Firstly, each customer is assessed separately so it is not possible to generalise how much credit they will allow you. But bearing in mind that you have a balance of say, 1,600, your previous bank must have allowed you credit in excess of that. So I am sure Barclays would do the same.
It will also depend on your past credit record.
I would suggest your best plan is to go to the bank to arrange the balance transfer. Not try to complete it online.
They will fill in the Barclaycard Premiership application with you.
All they need to know is your present bank details, ie Sort Code and Card Number. Also they will require you to have a bank account not necessarily with Barclays.
Yes, you need to balance transfer within 60 days to take advantage of this offer. But remember, the present offer ends 26 April, 2006.
If you have already applied online, they will NOT send you a card along with the application forms. The card would arrive later if your application is approved.
An interesting point If a person owes 1,000 and chooses to only pay the minimum each month, it will take 18 years and 10 months to clear the account!

thanks again everyone, intresting sir.prize about the 18 yrs crikey, im not even sure what the right way to go about all this, all i know is i owe captial 1 1,600 and the intrest is high now and nothing seems to be coming off the bill , when i looked on the net for help most sites say to do a balance transfer to another card with 0% and to try and get 1 with no bt fee, so if the barcleys form comes does that mean its just like doing the same as i did online then when posted back they make the descion then i gave my bank details and sort code on the online form maybe that was another mistake, if the forms do come should i maybe not bother filling them in and look for a different credit card, im so not sure what im at to be honest all i do know is i need to get this 1,600 down :( so if anyone would like to suggest what the best options are for me or what the best card to transfer to , thanks guys for all your help so far xx

Perhaps I am repeating myself - but the best advice is go to the bank and ask for a Barclaycard Premiership application form. Let them fill it in with you there and they will send it away for approval.

Forget that you applied online - if those forms come back then destroy them.

Rely on your bank - they will get it right for you. But remember - there are four different Barclaycards. You MUST get the Barclaycard Premiership to benefit from 10 months interest free and NO balance transfer fee.

Good luck
