If I query with my bank, where a cheque I've sent has been cashed/deposited/who's cashed it/what bank. Would my bank be able to tell me those details.  TIA.

Why not ask your bank?

I will when it opens tomorrow, but seeing as they're closed now I thought I'd annoy you Bookbinder.

Do you have access to online banking?
if so you may be able to click on the check and see what details they hold

yes they should.

although your query is a bit vague. was it payable to a company/person who say they haven't received it?

Well, malagabob, I'm not annoyed by your question. It seems to me to be a perfectly reasonable question to ask. Best of luck with the bank.

Yes, they will, to a point.  Both sides of the cheque will be scanned when they receive it, and that will show which bank received it.

I've asked my bank and the answer is NO. Stating confidentiality.

The person that you spoke to at the bank is probably wrong.

You are the customer and they owe YOU a duty of confidentiality, not the payee, unless the payee/account it was deposited in is ALSO a customer of your bank. They should be able to tell you which bank/branch it was presented at, but that is as far as they will be able to tell you. They will not have the details of the account it was posted to, only the other bank will have that and THEY will not divulge it to you or your bank as THEY have a duty of confidentiality to THEIR customer.

Have you asked the person you sent the cheque to?  Or have they said  they never received it?
