Have you ever misplaced something valuable and later been reunited with it thanks to an honest person?

Or have you found something of value and returned it to its rightful owner?

I left a rare Louis Vuitton White Goat leather bag with 1,800 Canadian dollars, my passport and all my bank cards in the bag of a taxi in Toronto and got it back thanks to a very honest Cab Driver called Ebenezer.

I left a pair of D&G Sunglasses in a Pierogi restaurant in Krakow and a lovely Polish lady chased me across the road to give them back to me. They weren't horrendously expensive but they're quite unusual and I've never seen another pair like them.

I once found a wallet containing a wad of notes and various bank cards on a train just as it was pulling into Hereford and I handed it in to the Ticket office. I just hope it did get back to its rightful owner.

I once visited the pub loo, just before closing time, for a sit down - couldn't wait 'til i got home. Next day, discovered an empty space in the back pocket of my jeans where my wallet usually lives. Being a Friday, the wallet contained quite a sum of money. Went to the pub on Saturday afternoon with what few pounds i had left, where the landlord passed me my wallet,...

No, but if I did find something of value either sentimental or monetary ,I would hand it straight in

Me too, Bobbi. You never know what it means to that person.
I once lost/forgot a pair of underpants drying on a hotel bathroom radiator. Also, a brand new pair of shoes at a different hotel.

They weren't your lucky pants were they, David? ;)

The question is, did you get reunited with your belongings?
Worst Reggie Perrin ever, david. :-)
I found a quite valuable watch in the hedgerow of a local park. When I called the police they took note of the details and where I found it plus my name and phone number. They wouldn't take the watch but said if anyone called about it they would be given my phone number. If I didn't get a phone call within 6 weeks then the watch was mine to keep. No phone call. I don't know whether that policy is UK wide or just in East Sussex. I wear the watch most days.

Very strange, Lady-B, but a nice, lucky find for you.

My friend from work who does the car booting bought a brand new Michael Kors watch in its box with the certificate and everything for £5 the other week. Honestly, she makes a mint from car booting. She's there at 5am every day, come hell or high water and gets all the best stuff before anyone else.
I've found a lot of lost property over the years including cash, bank cards and an expensive phone. All were handed in and returned. The worst response I got was from the person losing the £200 cash, who, when I handed it over, said to me "what's up? are you expecting a reward or sumfin?"
Question Author
Wow, TW, that's gratitude for you!
if that wasn't bad enough, I found out later, they had said to someone who was around, "I should have counted it before they left, to make sure it was all there".
"She's there at 5am every day, come hell or high water and gets all the best stuff before anyone else." - don't you just love those who turn up before you have even put stuff out and expect to be able to root through your stock. I just leave my dogs in the back of the van till I am ready to start selling. They soon move on then and pester someone else.
Question Author
TW, that was pig ignorant. I almost wish you hadn't handed it back to him. A donation to charity would have been more worthwhile ;-)

Lankeela, from what she tells me, some of the regulars go looking for her because they know exactly what she's after. She pays cash up front and never haggles. No wonder she gets all the good stuff !
So if it is good stuff, how come they are not making good money from it, rather than selling it to her at car boot prices?
I've learnt something, and wouldn't do that ever again, I would phone the police and get it listed as "found property" and get the listing details, and in the six weeks, if it wasn't claimed, tough luck!
Question Author
A lot of them do house clearances, Lankeela, and don't have the time to sell items individually. My friend buys items she's interested in and sells them to traders or on eBay. They're all part of the chain.
Question Author
Don't blame you, TW. I would have been so angry if it had been me.
LadyCG as someone who never buys designer stuff, how much would the Michael Kors watch usually cost?
Obviously then all other areas don't have the same policies as B&H as sees in ww's case.

It was a man's watch that I found with a big face and I can actually see what the time is now without having to put my reading glasses on. Win win.
My old dad used to find lots of things including five and ten pound notes. Worth a lot more back then than they are today. He was a very honest soul and always handed them in to the local police station. Invariably he always got them back as nobody seemed to report losing money as they didn't expect it to be handed in.
Barsel as LadyCG probably hasn't seen this here's a link.
