do you have to apply for it, or does it come automatically. I am now officially retired and have been since late December 2020, i didn't get this last year, so am i eligible this year 2021. I am single, and haven't any idea of how much, if anything to expect. Any thoughts as to when one might receive it? sorry i didn't know what category to put this is in.......

i did look it up and it should mean i am eligible, but don't know as i mentioned what i would receive or indeed whether you have to apply for it.

would like to get others experiences of this and any feedback is most welcome.
Emmie. You do not need to apply for the allowance. As you are single your are entitled to £200 winter fuel allowance. Sister in law got hers automatically at 66 years of age.

thanks David, that's good to know. It will come in very handy.
My Aunt got a letter telling her they would pay her £300 pounds between now and January 14th, She is 87

it does say that a payment may be different if you get pension credit which i do get. How so i wonder?
On top of that you may be entitled to extra help via the warm homes discount.

thanks Rowan, i do get that too, which helps enormously.. Strangely i have just received a sum from my Electricity supplier of £230.00 which i wasn't expecting, so must be some form of rebate.
I can't wait until I am 66 and I get my state pension, help with fuel, bus pass, I might just be able to start having a life again.
I have to wait until 67 Rowan, sob sob.
Unless you're in the same position as my aunt, Rowan - her income is £1.50 a month above the limit so she doesn't get the pension credit, the warm home discount, help with council tax, dental treatment etc :(
Emmie, I just got a letter telling me I’ll get the winter fuel payment and it will be paid into my account by 14th jan
BARRY, regardless of how high the maximum income were, there would always be those exceeding it, even if only by a penny, who would miss out.
Emmie, I got a letter today for the Warm Home Discount, but mine is £140.
Did they say your £230 is due to a rebate for this or do you think it might be your Winter Fuel Allowance?
I got a letter yesterday saying I would be getting £200 and it should go into my account up to January 2022.

But I have had it this past 3 years or so and it is usually paid out before Christmas - well for me anyway. You will get it sooner than you think.
How many pensioners actually spend this on fuel may I ask?
Always had mine in November.
if you include Malbec, redhelen.
