Can anybody tell me how to get a UTR to do my tax return online? I have not done one before and have had no demand from the revenue. Thanks.

I <think> you will get one if you go through the on-line registration process - fairly long winded as you will have to wait for a password to be sent to you through the post before you can actually complete a return

If you haven't got a UTR I don't think you can get one online. I think you have to call or visit your local tax office to register for self assessment.

If you haven't received a self assesment return to fill in it either means you have moved address since registering, you have slipped through the net or you do not need to fill out a return until April 2006. The only other reason is if you had an accountant do your return previously and they filed online for you. These are the reasons you may not have received your UTR.

If you want to file your return online, don't wait until the last minute (31st Jan) as it takes a few days while they send out your password etc. Even then, there may be technical problems, delays etc.

When did you register? If it was after April 2005, you will not bve required to submit a return yet. If you haven't registered yet or still have not received return, there is details here on how to go about it.
