Our CC is the only card that will last until it's expiry date. Our debit cards don't last long at all. Too over used.

the reason i ask is because i use mine online often, and know all the details in my head. It's saved on several sites. However, i received a new one in the post today, and want to know how long i can keep using the old one

Too true. About 7 years ago I tried to draw some money on Xmas Eve to do my shopping. The machine spit it out because the chip had been damaged. Of all the days in the year! Fortunately I was able to use it at the supermarket via the magnetic strip. The only difference was I had to sign a receipt.

Bednobs...you can carry on using the old one until you activate the new which should be done by the 28th...or whenever, just the old one will become invalid after that date.

As soon as you activate the new one the old one becomes invalid. If your card is saved on websites for shopping etc. you will be asked to activate your new one when your old one expires

Oddly enough my new debit card and one of my new credit cards have a lifespan of 5 years instead of the usual 3.

I don't get that. Whatever the lifespan, you get a replacement at the end of it. The longer the validity of the card, the more likely it is to become damaged.

Agree with JD, whatever the life span of the card it's just one visit to an ATM to activate the new one.
