Paperwork Clearout
6 Answers
Over the last few days I've been doing a mass clear out of paperwork.
Apart from the obvious identity, passport, land/property registration and purchase and my will, what other documents should I be keeping?
I've shredded bank, old mortgage statements (I don't have a mortgage anymore), pay slips and loads of other paperwork dating back from over 20 years.

I have got a couple of letters confirming insurance queries....large item purchase receipts if recent, proof of purchase/cost/value of anything that you might want to make an insurance claim on, car service/repair history. anything relating to your medical history or the medical history of your pets.
I keep bank statements, credit card bills and so forth for a couple of years, but they're all available on line these days. But I kept all my pay records till I retired (and they proved extreeeeemely useful as I was able to sort out a pay shortfall from several years back and get a substantial rise before I left).
I like to keep old insurance papers etc so I can check how much they're putting up prices over the years. But otherwise, only stuff of sentimental value.
