Sorry but that link now appears to have gone down. The value it gave however was 659.00, linked to the retail price index
The link is fine, it's just that AB appended some html onto the end of it. Try this :

Not sure that is hugely accurate - in 1974 4000 would have bought you a 3 bedroom detached house in Northampton. - it computes it at only 55,000 today - house is currently worth 155,000
That's because house prices do not grow with the RPI.

Hi Doog

A rought estimate is one pound 1914, was worth 10 in 1971 decimlaisation and 100 now

so 10 in 1911 is around 1000 now

House prices vary as noted. Others do as well. David Cox brummie artist sold his most expensive picture (see Bham art gall) for 1000 in 1880 - golly that's a lot of mun mun - around one hundred thousand,

and I'm afraid his paintings dont go for anything like that now.....

And did you see the antiques road show where one old gaffer showed his granddad's georgian table which the old buffer had paid 3400 for, in 1910. Wow 340 000 now, and you must know that georgian furniture is just not that expensive now.
