Post Office
If you have any money loan shops/pawn brokers that are a few about now, they are offering better rates at the moment.
Iv'e found Cheque Centre to be pretty good. E.G. at present 1.174 Euros to the pound compared to M&S, also reckoned to be OK, but giving 1.157.

post office ? i am only changing 300 gbp pounds so maybe not a lot in oit where ever i change whether bank or PO or money shop etc .

?????
Heathfield - the question was Euro to Pound. Cheque Centre want you to give them 11.74 Euro for each 10 Pounds they give you, M&S only want 11.57 Euro using the rates you quoted.
The Post Office buyback rate is 1.37 which is appalling given that they sell at around the 1.16 mark

Have a look at http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ - there is a buyback section. The best rates are mainly in London or involve you posting the notes in.
Post office want something like 1.30-40 for every £ they give you.
Our local PO is only offering 1.13 to the £ when good places are offering 1.18. when buying euros
Everybody seems to be ignoring the obvious!

The best place to change Euros back into Sterling is at work or in the pub. It's not hard to find someone who is planning a trip to the Eurozone. Offering them a slightly better exchange rate than they'll get at the Post Office (or similar) will leave both of you better off than using any commercial exchange facility.
Are you near an airport or currency exchange ? if do a swap with someone queuing up to change £s to Euros. I have done this several times we just agreed to 'split the difference' between the buying and selling rates.
I'm unsure as to whether you want to change Sterling to Euros or the otherway round. If Euros to Sterling then yes, as Buenchico says, ask around and see if someone you know wants Euros, then split the difference. If however you want to change Sterling to Euros then have a look at the Post Office online rate. This is often better than the rate offered in branches. You can arrange for it to be collected at your local branch.

euro,s to pound. is what i am changing.
But in your earlier post you said " i am only changing 300 gbp pounds... "

Please can clarify which way round it is- £s to Euros or Euros to £s.
Whichever way round it is, I don't think there difference between any of them is going to me more than a couple of pounds/ Euros
Yes with that amount it is not worth the travel time / cost to go far just change them at the nearest exchange point less than £2/euro difference wherever you do it.

i think i,ll just hold onto them for holidays ....went to change them in post office today .

euro 300 = £ 218 NO WAY.
Whichever way round it is, I don't think there difference between any of them is going to me more than a couple of pounds/ Euros

The best/worst could easily be £20 difference on that sort of sum
