John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) was one of England's greatest philosophers. Here is what he wrote in his Considerations on Representative Government:
"The Conservative party was, by the law of its costitution, the stupidest party."
Chided for calling the Tories ‘stupid', he said:
"I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it. Suppose any party, in addition to whatever share it may possess of the ability of the community, has nearly the whole of its stupidity, that party must, by the law of its constitution, be the stupidest party; and I do not see why honourable gentlemen should see that position as at all offensive to them, for it ensures their being always an extremely powerful party...There is so much defence, solid force in sheer stupidity, that any body of able men with that force pressing behind them may ensure victory in many a struggle, and many a victory the Conservative party has gained through that power."
You need never again ask why it is that a Conservative government has been elected...to echo the Clinton campaign motto of 1992, "It's the stupid, stupid!"

If he wants grammar schools I am all for it. It helps those born into a poor family the opportunity to become great. And that is what the country needs.

If he winds up the left, as he appears to be succeeding on here to the point they call him names then he is doing a good job.

If he's under the skin of the guardian and the anti British above then he's doing something right. If you have to be stupid to be a conservative then MrsT was in the wrong party, she had one of the highest IQs ever measured. Still I expect nothing less from the guardianistatas.
