Heard today that Tesco were fined £300.000 for false advertising. While I'm glad they did I can't help wondering where or who got that £300.000?
All the money thats paid to the courts who's bank does that go into?
It never seems to be talked about.

I was shocked to hear too £14 Million was put into the governments coffers each YEAR from people who do not make a will & who's relatives can't be traced. Disgusting it should go straight to the NHS.

Why should it go to the NHS? There are other deserving causes as well.
Who funds the NHS?
I would vote for NHS, cheaper housing and charities
What if the deceased were "failed" by the NHS?
Why should it go to the NHS? You may consider that a priority, others might think education, social services or council housing is more important.

It is not unreasonable to think that if that £14m were paid straight to the NHS then £14m would be wiped off the money they receive from the government.

The government doesn't have money. It is our money, the taxpayers. It doesn't go in to the PMs pocket but is used by the treasury as it thinks fit.
And the money doesn't just go to the Government. The list of unclaimed estates are sent out. That is why there are programmes like heir hunters..

You think Cameron is trying to do away with the NHS?
Tesco annual profits £3,800,000,000, so £300,000 is peanuts (less than 0.01%)

......... that's the equivalent of a Market Trader for example making £40,000 a year being fined £3.16.

But when you hear what they were fined for.....
Fines and penalties such as this are deposited into the Consolidated Fund of HM Treasury. This is where collected taxes are also deposited and from which public services are funded.

Tesco wasn't fined for undercharging for too long on perishable goods (it can perfectly legally sell at a tenth of the current price for the rest of eternity if it so chooses). Tesco was fined for incorrectly describing the strawberries as "half price" which was a misleading phrase and a breach of consumer trading regulations.
What was the false advertising about?
