What an absolute load of TOSH, I was getting quite wound up at this meeting because the woman who was supposedly receiving these messages was useless and every message she gave out to an individual would probably have fitted every body in the room, a dreadful scam!!

We had to pay £3.00 to go in, I wanted to ask for my money back on the way out!!

I really felt that the lady I was supporting (learning Disability) was duped into believing this nonsense, her mother died last week. She had the nerve to tell my client that she had "made contact with an elderly lady with grey hair, it used to be a lot darker" My client broke down saying "thats my mum"

I really wanted to stand up and protest!! I told my boss " don not send me there again as next time I wont be able to keep my mouth shut!!

And they stand there and have the audacity to preach about morals!!!!!!!

I must say I’ve never known a spiritualist church to charge an entrance fee, but as difficult as it may be, if there’s a job to do, there are occasions when personal feelings must be put aside. There’s no doubt that his sort of thing often brings comfort to the bereaved. Just this week I’ve listened to a spiritualist friend whose mother recently died telling me that since her mother ‘came through’ a day or two back, she has come to terms with her loss and feels much better.

I know what you are saying Naomi, I still feel that your friend has found comfort through a deceit or a lie or at best a false belief. If I could believe that my deceased Mother and brother was now living in a beautiful land of green fields and blue sky I would get relief from that as well but it would still not be true.
Ratter, I can only say I don't know - because I don't.
Question Author
I know Naomi, neither of us really do but I think I have a pretty good idea!!
Saying nothing is part of the job Ratter!
Leonardo da Vinci

“Many have made a trade of delusions and false miracles, deceiving the stupid multitude.”

Stupid should be substituted with vulnerable here of course.
Just be professional and put your own personal beliefs to one side, after all it's a job not your recreation time. I frequently have to do things that really wind me up workwise and I'd rather eat my own eyes, but if it's work it's work, just don't go in your spare time ;-)
Question Author
I agree Nox, however I think my boss would rather send some one else next time, just so she doesnt have to put up with me banging on incessantly about it for the next hour after I return :-)
Millions of people believe in this sort of thing and they're not all stupid. That this lady has learning difficulties is irrelevant. You could use the same argument that you wouldn't want to take someone to regular church, faith healers - Holland and Barrett even just because you think it's tosh. If it gave her enjoyment or comfort why does it matter.
If that's a dig at my post, please read the last sentence.

At one point the woman was waving her arms around looking for the next victim to give a message to, she pointed directly at me, then she saw the "dont even think about it" look on my face and very quickly pointed to someone else.
My sympathies Ratter, the temptation to have some "fun" at these events must be overwhelming.
Ratter, letting her go ahead might have been an interesting test. ;o)
I went to one wi a pal and I was picked out. Several questions were asked of me and various stements made including one saying I could be seen under a lampost reading a book (??????) Every time I said "no" or that it meant nothing to me, the response was "Think about it, it'll come to you later" needless to say, it didn't.
Question Author
Naomi, "Ratter, letting her go ahead might have been an interesting test"

Oh Naomi I was so tempted, I just couldnt do it while supporting a client.

THECORBYLOON, I was hearing the same nonsense, she was saying stuff like: "Ok it may mean nothing to you now but I will leave it with you, ask the family, it will come to you" I kept thinking "how dare you insult peoples intelligence so" but hey! they were all sucked in it appears!
These sects or whatever you want to call them are just brain washing money makers. My grandmother was one ,she was as bright as a button, owning a pub, money lending business and property she put thousands into a new building for the privilege of having a brick with her initials on
would you be complaining like this if the lady wanted to go and sit in a church listening to services and praying for hours on end...?

same misleading nonsense.

at least with the spiritualist church there was some sort of actual comfort.
Would you object to taking your client to a C of E service, what with you being a vehement atheist?
Question Author
Craft, no I wouldn't object at all to taking any client to any other church service its just the way they select you a blatantly lie and mislead to convince you they are talking to the spirit world. She got no comfort from it, she was deeply distressed.
"What sort of church charges people money for going in?"

About 3 years ago (?) the church in Saint Albans changed the mid week service so they no longer took a collection but took an entry fee at the door. Became not so much a spiritual service, more of a paid demonstration. I can understand the problem with not collecting enough from voluntary donations to cover costs, but felt it turned one thing into something completely different. No longer a time of spiritual contemplation with evidence, but a show.
