I have posted this question in the Jobs and Education as i was not sure which category to put it in.

My son has been studying at night school on various different courses (accounts), he has just passed Sage level 1, when looking on job vacancy websites, employers requirements say they want 'Sage line 50'

Does anyone now if Sage Line 50 is the same as Sage Level 1 and do you think it is worth him taking the Sage level 2 course which starts soon

many thanks

Level 1 will be the introductory level, so it would benefit your son to go for Level 2 if he can. Ask him to discuss with his tutor.
Sage line 50 is the name of one of the products in the sage family so I'd assume that sage level 1 is simply the first level in learning the sage products, one of which would be line 50.
Sage line 50 is the name of the package. I'm presuming Sage Level 1 does not cover the whole of the package.
Sage level 2 course consists of ...

Definately worth doing.

thanks for all your answers

he is also studying a course at a different nightschool called bookkeeping and computerised accounts (7 modules in total), he has passed all 5 modules of the bookkeeping side and is about to start the 2 computerised modules (some form of Sage is included in this part of the course as well)
IMO the only qualification worth doing at this stage is AAT; it is recognised by employers as a quality examination and is not purely a software competence. If he can possibly go for AAT he should do so.
whatever happened to double entry book keeping ? + calculator + pen, proper accounting...
That's done in AAT Chas; ensures that the student is competent in accounting procedures. Even using accounting software you need to know what's going on in the background else how do you know how to correct anything?
Yes, I know Sage will do corrections for you but big companies rarely use Sage.
thats good then, i have seen many basic purchase/sales ledger clerks end up in accounting position purely because of there knowledge of computers & neccessary programs.

thank you for all your answers

madmaggot, my son enrolled and was accepted on AAT last September, only for it to be cancelled a couple of days before it was due to start, the college decided it was not going to be funded at the last minute (18 and under get it free) the over 18's fee increase went from £665 to £1600 in the end they didn't have enough to start the course because of the price increase.
I have noticed that the AAT course is back on the colleges website for this September and the price is back to £665 and will still be free for my son, so he is going to enrol again and hope it runs this time.
