Moral dilemma

I bought a piece of urgently needed computer equipment and paid for next day delivery. It didn't arrive, and I raised hell with them, so they sent another, but it was still late.

Two items arrived, needless to say.

They had advised me that the first item had got lost in the delivery system, refunded my payment, and took a payment for the replacement.

Because they had caused me so much hassle, and made me miss a deadline, I thought why should I make more phone calls and waste any more time.

So I stuck the extra item on one side, and waited for them to sort it out.

That was 3 months ago. The item cost about £100, and the supplier is a massive organisation.

What would you do?

Do the right thing. You know you'll feel much better when you do.
exactly what you've done, keep it.
we had a similar situation with a microwave one of my sons ordered from currys. in the end, two turned up so he kept one and we have the other.
Hi. If its still on your mind after 3 months then send it back, otherwise flog it on ebay
Will seem a bit odd if you only contact them after 3months If you do I'd write something along the lines of despite two previous letters regarding the delivery of duplicated order you the extra item is still awaiting collection Please contact me asap to make arrangements.
id tell them youve got 2.
I once ordered a little charm, it cost £5 but didnt arrive so i emailed seller. They apologised and sent another. A few days later i found the first had fallen behind a desk by the front door. I called them, apolgised and posted the second one back to them, i didnt want to keep it and feel guilty.
I'd sell it on ebay.
Sell it on eBay .. and be smug in the knowledge that in the end ... they helped, rather than hassled you.
If it were a small trader I would inform them. If it was a massive organisation (which you say it is) then I wouldn't have a conscience about keeping it.

I got a free washing machine once!
On the one occassion I recieved 2 of something because the PO had failed to deliver in a reasonable time, I told the supplier and they send a pre-paid label for return.
Keep it and use it yourself or flog it and give some of the money to charity- don't give it back to the incompetant twonks- things like their uselessness cause real problems for businesses, serves em right.
I would also sell it on ebay...
I agree with Lottie, my son once bought an oven and a hob from a large organisation with his credit card, he's still waiting 3 years later to be charged.
I got two cameras that way last year - the mess was the PO's fault, not the retailer's, so I let the retailer know he could pick the original one up from the PO, which he did. I'm not a great fan of taking things that don't belong to me.

That's how I got my washing machine jd. It was actually about six months afterwards that I realised the transaction hadn't shown on my card. I have never lost any sleep over it.

9 to 4 in favour of keeping it.

It's not quite Unsolicited Goods, but I could live with my conscience.

I wouldn't sell it, but could use a spare, or give it to someone who needs it.
Ordered large bags of bird seed on line. Hadn't arrived after 2 weeks so I phoned firm. Said they'd send two more - then 4 turned up, sod's law. Rang them back and they said just to keep them, apparently more trouble than it was worth to return.
I would imagine that you are not EVER going to need the second bit,so I would tell them to collect it (Saves going to hell when you die) Johnt
Bearing in mind 3 months have gone by,venator and it would be a bit awkward to contact them to arrange to send it back now.

I would have e-mailed them, rather than waste time and calls again, to say what happened and to arrange them to send out a suitable sized Jiffy Bag with postage to cover the cost and send it back to them

I'd forget about it.......keep it as a spare or give it to a friend/family member to use, if they have the same equipment.

Big company too........not a small independent.....
They did give you hassle in the first instance, after all......:0)

Oh .....and say 10 Our Fathers and 5 Hail Mary's to make you feel better.......:0)
