Iam told that at 60 you get a fuel allowence, do you have to apply for this ,or is this paid automatically.

thanks docspock the website got me muddled £400 for living alone, but didnt explain about couples, one under and one over 80

I never applied nor did Mr S .It was paid automatically once he was sixty .Then when I was sixty I got half and he got the other half .As Doc says 125 pounds each .
Basically, as from 5th May 2010, for every month you were under 60 at that date you have to wait an extra month from your 60th birthday to qualify for free prescriptions, bus pass, winter fuel allowance &c. The September qualifying cut-off point for WFA still applies. In other words if you were 55 at that date you won't get any of these benefits until you are 65, male or female.
Funny Shaney, I still get the whole amount and Mr LL doesn't get any. How weird. We get £250 so the figure is right, but it all gets paid to me. I better not tell him!!!
the cut off birth date for this year is 5 july 1950. the september thing is residence in the UK. thats what the website says
