Credit reference agency checks for opening a new current account

Does anyone know if banks run credit reference agency checks on applicant for new current accounts, even if they do not request any lending facilities (i.e. credit card or overdraft)? And if so if someone has CCJ or defaults whether this will cause the bank to reject the application?

Also does anyone know if banks will carry out credit checks on the director of a company if the company applies for a business current account, again even if they do not request lending facilities?

Thanks.

Most banks run a credit check on anybody wanting to open an account, but there are 'non credit check banks' such as http://www.thinkmoney.com/banking/. I'm sure if you do a Google search you'll find more.
