�18000 in 1976 equivalent today?

I've just been watching an episode of The Good Life from 1976, where there was mention of Gerry's salary, being �18000 per annum.

I've been searching online, but can find nothing as to what the equivalent would be today. Does anyone know?

My three-bed terraced house in SE London cost me �9,500 in 1976 and we struggled to pay it. If the mortgage was about twice my partner's and once my income we were probably both earning around �3000 pa. I was a full-time office worker and he was a full-time HGV driver.

On the back of the picture cut out of the local paper when we got married, there are some beautiful houses for sale for the princely sum of �1,500. OK so it was 1969 but just imagine!!
