social services nursing home payments

my mother in law is in hospital and now needs to go into a nursing home we have been told that social services will pay 359 towards the cost of this does she still get her penison on top of this as the fees are 550 a week

Depends on the rules of the local authority where your mother in laws care home is.

when my father in law was in a home he paid all the fees ,about �1500 a month,until his capital was less than �20,000 - that included selling his house.

Then when the local authority chipped in they added all his income ,pensions etc together and then the difference between that and the care home fees was what they paid.They allowed him �17.50 a week for personal expenses.So no in his case he didn't get to keep his pension just �17.50 spending money anything else he wanted to buy either came out of his savings or was bought by relatives.
