I have just unearthed a Premium Savings Bond dated October 1971 with a face value of just 1.00 and would be interested in the following:
1. Is it still a valid document?
2. Has the bond been entered into the periodic draws ever since that date?
3. Would I have been notified if a winning number at any time?

1. Yes it is still valid
2. Yes it should have been as long as it hasnt been cashed in and you are not holding a re-issue of the certificate.
3. You would have been notified as long as the address it was registered at is the same or you have notified them of a change of address.

Check your number here...........

Many thanks for such a swift response. The question was asked mainly out of curiosity, as you are now unable to buy these bonds for such small units.
I found a 1 Premium Bond at my Mums house a couple of years ago, and one for my brother aswell. I wrote to them with my change of name (I got married a few years ago) and my new address and they sent me a nice letter with a reference number on. I think that if you get back in touch after a while they check whether your premium bond was a winner.
I have a 5 bond and I still live in hope it will fall lucky one day! LOL
From 1976, Holders numbers were allocated to all existing and new Bondholders; you should have received notification of this at that time.

If you do not know your Holder's number you need to write to NS&I with the necessary information at the address given here...
