i went my friend to the cashpoint (RBS) we both have current accounts.
he was able to draw £300 but mine would only allow £250.
could i still shop with my card and get £40 cash back or not?

don't know the answer to that, but with Lloyds, if you go into the bank with your cashcard and ask to withdraw, you can withdraw as much as you have in your account (ie no limit) if there is still some left in your account, or you have an overdraft, you can then go to the hole in the wall and withdraw there too.
most cards have a £200 per day limit for cash points but some have a £300 limit your friend must have had one with a £300 limit while yours is £200.
But as said you can withdraw as much as there is in the account by going into your bank and using the card over the counter.
sorry should have added that cash back is separate to the cashpoint so as long as there is cash in your account you can do the £40 cash back as well.
If the machine only allowed you to take out £250 because that was the maximum amount of cleared funds available, you won't get any more money (or be able to make purchases above the small amount left in your account) anywhere else.

However if you could only withdraw £250 simply because of the limit on the card then you can still make purchases in shops. If you spend £10 and ask for £40 cashback the bank's system doesn't even know that's what you've done. It simply sees it as a £50 purchase which, as I've stated, should go through with no problems.
