Would I be considered for a business loan if my credit rating is not great?

I'm looking to start a business and will need some finance but I wonder if my credit rating will count against me? I'd like to think that any prospective lender will judge any proposal on its own merits but will they automatically decline me because of the state of my personal finances? Thanks

A prospective lender will generally look at both.
However the general principle often followed is they look at how much of your own own you are willing to put up and risk in the business.
You can but ask.
