I've swiped this off the BBC News site:

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis is calling on the government to scrap its "outdated" policy of multiculturalism.
Allowing people of different cultures to settle without integrating let the "perverted values of suicide bombers" take root, he told the Daily Telegraph.

Mr Davis, favourite to become the next Tory leader, urged the government to "build a single nation" and demand "respect for the British way of life".

How can we begin to do this? Is it even possible?

Well I'd say he's spot on. So many people come here and then try and turn it into where they just came from! If it was so great there then why did you leave? I live in Bournemouth and it's very common for people from up North or Scotland to tell me how wonderful it is oop North, they don't seem to find it ironic that they are telling me this in a town that's about as far south as you can get. Same problem!

A large number of immigrants come to Britain (and many other countries) to seek solace and escape persecution, so I dont think it is a case trying to 'turn it into where they just came from'. The problem is we do not make clear the 'ground rules' for newcomers, so they feel they are perfectly justified in continuing there way of life. If you take in a lodger without laying down the do's and donts whilst he / she stays in your abode, how do you expect them to know what is / isn't acceptable?
Allowing several different religions to live together without singing from the same hymn book is a recipe for conflict.

speaking on behalf of the original Belgic tribes who settled Britain, can I say the Roman invaders had better accept our values or get out.

Speaking on behalf of Roman civilisation, I say it is time these Anglo-Saxon invaders understood that they must respect our way of life.

On behalf of all Angles and Saxons, I call  upon the government to abandon the policies that have let Vikings bring their perverted values to this country.

Isn't it time these Norman swine started to integrate into our way of life? If they don't like it here, why don't they just go home to Normandy???

Spot on but like most political statements years too late..they have been taking root for years under both political parties....politicians are now powerless to do much about it they just make speeches and statements.. ..

labours stance on it. ( don't open if offended easily!)

There has always been discrimination of one kind or another in the UK. As the UK becomes more and more multicultural the discrimination I'm sure will unfortunately grow!  I don't feel however that expecting everyone to talk, dress, and worship the same will in any way make for a happy and safe existence for us all! What would help though is if we all had a better understanding of each others cultures and customs whether it's Christianity Muslim etc, it does'nt help either when some local authorities in their haste to be seem as PC or whatever you care to call it, talk about banning Christmas trees and suchlike, all that suceeds in doing is p*****g us all off!  Suppose what I'm trying to say is that respect is a two way thing and we all need to make the effort, if not for ourselves then at least for our children and granchildren!

I smell a potential Tory leader playing to the gallery.

I'm fed up with all these English people moaning and whingeing and complaining about multiculturalism. I think we should send some of them back to East Africa where their ancestors came from 300,000 years ago.
Actually bernado thats a good idea, then we can sort these places out yet again, just like we did before they all got independence and rapidly went downhill trying to rule themselves.

"Sort these places out like we did before"?.

Oh! you mean move in with troops seize land, mine and farm the place using the natives for cheap labour (now they can't hunt or farm themselves -no land don't ya know) force them into adopting our religions and then whine about how it was much better when we ruled the place after we leave them fighting for what's left.

During the Raj Indian literacy was at 6%, in the 19th century under British rule there were over 20 million deaths from famine in India.

We sorted them out ok!

If I moved to Spain or Cyprus ar anywhere else, I'd feel compelled to learn the lingo and try some local delights. There's no way I'd try to make my new home there a tiny piece of Scotland with more sun. Obviously I'd have developed a taste or preference for some things so wouldn't be a clone of the locals there but I do feel that others moving to the UK should make a similar effort.

I find it ridiculous that people move here and make no effort at all to speak English. By all means, preserve your culture and religion (and even teach your kids both languages) but this is a pet hate of mine.
It's also one of those ; "oh, you can't say that. That's not PC. It's maybe even racist".
It's not, it's just ignorant of anyone to emigrate and not try to integrate. I hate it as much when I see it in Cyprus as in the UK.
I don't mean to offend anyone but I think that the Chinese / Indian / Bangladeshi etc immigrants have given a lot to our country. Are you wanting to get rid of Chinese and Indian / Bangladeshi restaurants? Surely these people should be allowed their traditional dress / customs and be free, like "Britons", to choose their own religion. The only problem I see is people like David Davis and Loosehead.
