Happy New Year,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

I hope you all had the Christmas and New Year you wished for, don't know about you but I over-indulged (and it was yummy).

Let's get back to basics what are you favourite and most helpful diet tips? Things that have worked for you.

Good Morning All,

I have stayed exactly the same so can't complain. I can't get a hold of the short noodles for chicken noodle soup here and don't know what I should call them when searching for them on line....any help would be appreciated.
Good Morning all well I have not moved 1 0z but I am not surprised as could not get down to it 100% this past 3 weeks, My son and g/son have been on holiday in Aussie and it is a wonder I have not had a heart attack with all the things they have been up to lol. I have even shared my dinners with his dog that has been as good as gold. But no excuse now they came back yesterday so back to routine .
Good news Boxie. I have lost 1/2lb which is at least a move in the right direction.

I picked up a big bag of granola breakfast cereal thinking it was the one i usually have, only to find, once I'd opened it that its the honey one with sugars and reasonably high fat. No wonder it tasted so good! Similar looking packet different brand, so i'm back to the porridge.
Well done Maydup yes you have to be careful especially with cereals,
Talking noodles.....has anyone tried Zero Noodles? They are plant based and zero calories, fat, carbs etc.

I notice them to be very fashionable with slimmers and bought two packets in H&B yesterday. Their last 2 packets, that's how popular they are at the moment. They look rather "slimy" and I'm slightly nervous of them but I'll try them tonight with a stir fry and report back.
Hi. Yes; had a household issue today and have just realised it's Wednesday, I'm dressed and eating breakfast, and weighing myself has not entered my mind. That said, based on yesterday's reading I'm still going up by about ½ lb. :-(

does anyone know, im not good with calorie counting (and tend not to bother to be honest) but what is better/less fattening for you, 2 small slices of wholemeal bread with marg/butter and marmite or a 39gram sachet of porridge made with semi skimmed?

one or the other is my usual weekday breakfast and eaten after a gym session

Hi Mccculff, The porridge would be best...a low fat % means a lower calorie count, but like you I don't do the calories I just look for the fat % on the packaging.
Mccfluff.....toast with a bit of honey but no marg or butter because they both have a very high fat %.

Well don marijn and maydup. Thanks for the noodles website. The kind I want are just about ½ inch in length.
Swap the wholemeal bread for wheat and gluten free bread, and switch the butter/spread for raw coconut oil. It's so much better for you.

Also, next time you go to buy your porridge, look out for Rude Health 'The Oatmeal', and make it up with either filtered water or almond milk.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's super-healthy :-)
cheers, but im not substituing anything out, i was just wondering which had the lesser calories/fat

i swap between the two for breakfast, just curiosity really, my weight loss is coming from my exercising
Fluff, on the WW diet I'm on, the porridge is more points from my daily allocation.

brown bread is 2 points per slice, marmite is zero, tsp of butter/fat is 1.
Oat so Simple porridge (tub not sachet) is 6 points per portion, but I sling some "free" fruit in to make it better :-) If you use a sachet and add milk, that would make it 7 points.
PS - Hint for the Healthy - don't eat a slice of the Tesco Finest Stollen that you find hiding in the cupboard and which runs out on the 21st....... It was only 6 WW points yesterday, but it was naughty :-)
